Knox School

Io collaboratively planned for the redevelopment of this rural site with the property owner, in order to accommodate a private school with an innovative maker philosophy. The owner wanted to keep the existing metal building and old wooden barn on the site. Io’s design solution to unifying the disparate architectural elements on the site began with the addition and placement of a new classroom/shop building to mimic the mass and roofline of the existing shop, while drawing material inspiration from the existing barn. The buildings work to frame a commons area with nature-inspired play and agricultural components.
