Historic Scott School, Utah’s oldest continuously operating school, has been a cornerstone of South Salt Lake for generations. Once Granite High School’s founding site, it now houses a Promise SSL center and an arts community hub, offering free, local, artist-led classes, summer, and after-school programs. The school also provides a vital Community Resource Pantry, operated by MOSAIC Inter-Faith Ministries, in collaboration with the Utah Food Bank.
Io LandArch embarked on a multi-phase, multi-year project with South Salt Lake beginning with a facilities master plan covering various campuses, including Historic Scott School. Interviews with community groups and nonprofits shaped plans for revitalization, emphasizing arts, performance, and recreation spaces. Io went on to develop a master plan for the site, and assisted the city in implementing Phase I improvements. Phase II focuses on parking, access, safety, and a unified, welcoming community environment.
Io’s work at Historic Scott School blends heritage preservation with community empowerment. The enhancements, from improved parking to thoughtfully designed landscaping, prioritize safety and community belonging. Beyond physical upgrades, Io fosters engagement and artistic expression, creating a vibrant hub for residents to connect, learn, and thrive. Dedicated spaces for arts and performance honor the campus’s creative legacy. This approach ensures that Historic Scott School remains a vital part of South Salt Lake, embodying the collective spirit and aspirations of its community.
