E.O. Wattis House

E.O. Wattis was an early Ogden businessman, and founding member of the Utah Construction Company (One of the contractors responsible for the construction of the Hoover Dam).  His residence located in Eccles Circle in Ogden, Utah is prominent for its original owner and prairie-style architecture.  In 2006, the grand-children of E.O. Wattis came together to purchase the home and restore the property.

Io Landscape Architecture designed a master plan in keeping with both the character of the historic neighborhood, while also implementing period appropriate garden design techniques.  The master plan calls for the use of built elements and plantings to define outdoor rooms.  A new entry walk was planned to emphasize the horizontality of the structure while also minimizing the appearance of the newer garage addition.  A formal back-lawn area was defined by the implementation of a prairie style pergola.  Throughout the site, horizontally-branched plantings emphasized the prairie lines of the house, while mixed border perennial beds unify house and garden in the tradition of Gertrude Jekyl.
